Stoney Creek Real Estate and Homes for Sale

Homes for sale, neighbourhood guidance and a broker who knows Stoney Creek street by street.

Stoney Creek runs from Lake Ontario up over the Niagara Escarpment to the farms and wineries on the rural mountain, and it holds most of Hamilton’s lakeshore. Since amalgamation in 2001 it has been part of the City of Hamilton, but it still trades as its own market, with roughly one in seven Hamilton home sales happening here. Nikki Vrba has sold on Lakegate Drive near the water, on Whitworth Terrace and on Village Green Boulevard, and she treats Stoney Creek as the eastern edge of the Burlington search: the same QEW, a lower price, a different tax bill.

Stoney Creek, Area by Area

The 2021 census counted 76,382 residents. The community splits into five distinct areas, and the escarpment and the QEW draw the lines between them.

Central Stoney Creek

The historic core around downtown Stoney Creek, King Street East, Highway 8 and Centennial Parkway is the most established and most walkable part of the community. Housing is older detached bungalows and backsplits on larger lots from the 1970s to 1990s, with townhomes and condos along the main roads. Battlefield House and the Battle of Stoney Creek monument are here, Eastgate Square is close, and so is the new Confederation GO station.

North Stoney Creek and the Lakefront

Along Lake Ontario by Confederation Park the housing is mostly townhomes and condos built between 2000 and 2020, with some detached homes. It is quiet and residential with the lake at the end of the street, the lakeshore trail and beach access, and the trade-off is thin transit and limited walkability for errands. This is where Lakegate Drive sits.

Stoney Creek Mountain

Above the escarpment, reached by the Red Hill Valley Parkway and the Lincoln Alexander Parkway, the Mountain has the newest housing in Stoney Creek: townhouses and detached homes from the 2000s onward, with 1970s to 1990s pockets along Mud Street. New schools, Heritage Green Sports Park, the Devil’s Punchbowl and Felker’s Falls, and big-box retail at Upper Centennial and Rymal. Expect to drive for everything.

Winona

At the far east end, split north and south by the QEW, Winona is almost entirely detached homes and townhomes from the early 2000s onward with older pockets south of the highway. The Winona Crossing retail node and Costco at Fifty Road serve it, Fifty Point Conservation Area is the lakefront draw, and the Peach Festival every August is the community event. No high school of its own, and no condo supply.

Fruitland and the Rural Mountain

The agricultural edge to the east and southeast is farms, wineries and estate-lot detached homes from old farmhouses to custom builds. Minimal inventory, maximum space, and a car for every errand.

Buying and Selling in Stoney Creek

  • Buying a home here means picking an area first, because the lakefront, the core and the mountain are three different lifestyles at three different prices.
  • Selling your home on the mountain or in Winona means competing with many similar newer homes, so staging and pricing carry the sale. In the core, condition and lot size lead.
  • Home valuation has to be area-specific; a Central bungalow on a big lot and a mountain two-storey have nothing in common except the postal city.
  • First-time buyers find townhouses on the mountain, in Winona and along the lakefront.
  • Condos are concentrated on the lakefront and along the main roads in the core.
  • Investment properties cluster near Confederation GO and along the Centennial corridor.

Getting Around

Confederation GO on the Lakeshore West line opened in October 2025 near Centennial Parkway and the QEW. The QEW runs the length of the community along the lake, and the Red Hill Valley Parkway and Lincoln Alexander Parkway connect the mountain to the QEW and the 403. Burlington is about fifteen minutes west on a good day.

Things Specific to Stoney Creek That Affect a Purchase

  • A new GO station changes the math. Confederation GO makes the train commute real; homes within an easy drive of it are the ones to watch.
  • Hamilton taxes and services. Budget for the City of Hamilton tax rate, which is higher than Halton’s.
  • Lake-effect weather and shoreline rules on the waterfront; a shoreline setback and erosion review is part of a lakefront offer.
  • Three high schools, none in Winona. Confirm the catchment for the address.
  • The mountain is car-first. Transit is thin above the escarpment.

Areas Around Stoney Creek

Hamilton surrounds Stoney Creek to the west and south. Burlington is fifteen minutes west on the QEW and is the usual comparison.

Stoney Creek Real Estate Questions

What are the main areas of Stoney Creek?

Five, and they are quite different. Central Stoney Creek is the historic core around King Street East and Highway 8, with 1970s to 1990s bungalows and backsplits on larger lots. North Stoney Creek is the lakefront along Confederation Park, mostly townhomes and condos from 2000 to 2020. Stoney Creek Mountain, above the escarpment, has the newest houses in the area. Winona, at the far east end, is early-2000s onward detached and townhomes around Fifty Point. Fruitland and the rural mountain are estate lots, farms and wineries.

Does Stoney Creek have a GO station?

Yes. Confederation GO opened in October 2025 on the Lakeshore West line, near Centennial Parkway and the QEW. The trip to Union Station is about an hour and a half direct, which makes Stoney Creek a realistic train commute for the first time. The QEW and the Red Hill Valley Parkway handle the drive.

Is Stoney Creek cheaper than Burlington?

Generally, yes, for comparable homes, and the newer mountain subdivisions in particular offer more house for the money than Burlington's Alton Village or Orchard. The trade-off is Hamilton taxes and a longer commute east to west. Nikki has sold on Lakegate Drive by the water, Whitworth Terrace and Village Green Boulevard, and can show the same budget in both cities.

What is the lakefront like?

Stoney Creek holds most of Hamilton's Lake Ontario shoreline. North Stoney Creek runs along Confederation Park with a lakeshore trail, beach access and mostly newer townhomes and condos; Winona has Fifty Point Conservation Area and its marina. Waterfront and near-waterfront homes carry a premium, and lake-effect weather and shoreline setbacks are part of the conversation.

What should I know about Stoney Creek Mountain?

It has the newest housing stock in Stoney Creek, from the 2000s to today, with new schools, parks and big-box retail at Upper Centennial and Rymal. Access is by the Red Hill Valley Parkway and the Lincoln Alexander Parkway. It is the most car-dependent part of the area, so plan on driving for most errands.

Are there schools in Stoney Creek?

Twenty-two schools across the public, Catholic and French boards, and three of Hamilton's higher-ranked high schools are here. Winona is the exception: it has no local high school, so teenagers are bussed out. Confirm the catchment for the specific address rather than the neighbourhood.
